About Our Church

Who we are and what we believe

Our Vision

We exist to glorify God in all of life together by:

  • Magnifying Jesus from all the scriptures;
  • Maturing Saints for every good work;
  • Making Disciples from all nations.

Personal Aim

It will be our individual personal aim to:

  • have Jesus at the center of my life;
  • strive to develop His character in me;
  • be devoted to serving others;
  • communicate His message;
  • fulfill His mission; and
  • love and participate in His family.

Mission & Purpose

Our Mission is to make our Vision real in the following ways:

WORSHIP
Our lives will express the response of our hearts to who God is and what He has done, through our expressions of love, adoration, thanksgiving and praise.

EVANGELISM
All our people will spread the Gospel into all the world through being involved in evangelism and missions as witnesses in our spheres of influence and by sending missionaries into our City, Province, Country and beyond, even to the ends of the earth.

DISCIPLESHIP
We will be disciples and disciple each other through a process in which we are taught and encouraged to attain to the whole measure of the fullness of the Lord Jesus Christ, thus requiring us to constantly examine our thoughts, words and actions in accordance with the Word of God, to always be ready to give a reason for the hope that is within us, to joyfully overcome the trials of this life and to disciple others. (2 Tim 2:2)

FELLOWSHIP
We will be united as a family with joy in our Christian fellowship and in our love and care for each other.

Statement of Faith

The Church believes:

1. In the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments in their original writings as fully inspired of God and accepts them as the final authority for faith and life.

2. In one God eternally existing in three persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

3. That Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true Man.

4. In the person of the Holy Spirit, His regenerating work, and abiding presence in the true believer.

5. That God created man in His own image; that man sinned and thereby incurred the penalty of death, physical and spiritual; that all human beings inherit a sinful nature which issues in actual transgression involving personal guilt.

6. That the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, a substitutionary sacrifice, suffering the full wrath of God against sin, according to the Scriptures, and that all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood.

7. In the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, His ascension into Heaven, and His present life as our High Priest and advocate.

8. In the personal return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

9. That all who receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.

10. In the resurrection of both the just and the unjust, and eternal blessedness of the redeemed and the eternal banishment and punishment of those who have rejected the offer of salvation.

11. That the one true Church is the whole company of those who have been redeemed by Jesus Christ and regenerated by the Holy Spirit, and that the local Church on earth should take its character from this conception of the Church spiritual, and therefore, that the new birth and personal confession of Christ are essentials of Church Membership.

12. In the priesthood of all believers.

13. That the Lord Jesus Christ appointed two ordinances – Baptism and the Lord’s Supper – to be observed as acts of obedience and as perpetual witnesses to the cardinal facts of the Christian faith; that Baptism is the immersion of the believer in water as confession of identification with Christ in burial and resurrection and that the Lord’s Supper is the partaking of the bread and the cup as symbolic of the Saviour’s body given for us and His blood shed for us, in remembrance of His sacrificial death, until He comes.

14. That God has ordained marriage as a heterosexual relationship between a natural man and a natural woman.

Statement of Baptist Principles

The Church further believes in the following distinctive Baptist emphases:

1. The CHURCH as the whole company of those who have been redeemed by Jesus Christ and regenerated by the Holy Spirit. The local Church, being a manifestation of the universal Church, is a community of believers in a particular place where the Word of God is preached and the ordinances of Believer’s Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are observed. It is fully autonomous, and remains so, notwithstanding responsibilities it may accept by voluntary association.

2. BELIEVER’S BAPTISM as an act of obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ and a sign of personal repentance, faith and regeneration; it consists of the immersion in water in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

3. The CONGREGATIONAL PRINCIPLE, namely that each member has the privilege and responsibility to use his/her gifts and abilities to participate fully in the life of the church. We recognise that God gifts His Church with Overseers (who are called Pastors or Elders) whose primary function is to lead in a spirit of servanthood, to equip and provide spiritual oversight, and Deacons whose primary function is to facilitate the smooth functioning of the Church. This principle further recognises that each member should participate in the appointment of the church’s leaders, and that a constituted church meeting, subject to the direct Lordship of Jesus Christ and the authority of Scripture, is the highest court of authority for the local church.

4. The PRIESTHOOD OF ALL BELIEVERS, by which we understand that each Christian has direct access to God through Christ our High Priest, and shares with Him in His work of reconciliation. This involves intercession, worship, faithful service and bearing witness to Jesus Christ, even to the end of the earth.

5. The principle of RELIGIOUS LIBERTY, namely, that no individual should be coerced either by the State or by any secular, ecclesiastical or religious group in matters of faith. The right of private conscience is to be respected. For each believer this means the right to interpret the Scriptures responsibly and to act in the light of his conscience.

6. The principle of SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE in that, in the providence of God, the two differ in their respective natures and functions. The Church is not to be identified with the State nor is it, in its faith or practice, to be directed or controlled by the State. The State is responsible for administering justice, ensuring an orderly community, and promoting the welfare of its citizens. The Church is responsible for preaching the Gospel and for demonstrating and making known God’s will and care for all mankind.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are your service times?
We gather for Family Bible hour from 8:30 to 9:15 Sunday mornings, followed by corporate worship from 9:30 to 10:45.
What is Family Bible Hour?
We have 45 minutes of teaching, navigating topics of practical and theological interest through the lens of Scripture. Classes are are divided into groups with a children’s “Sunday School” class, and classes for adults. You are free to come only for corporate worship from 9:30 am, but we would love you to join us for Family Bible Hour.
Do you have a Sunday School?
Our children receive Bible teaching during Family Bible Hour before corporate worship, and then join their families for corporate worship.
Why do children stay in church for worship?
We believe that it is important to include the children in our corporate gathering for worship, so that they can participate in our worship of God and the teaching of His Word, and observe the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We believe this teaches children the benefits and importance of corporate worship, and encourages them to continue gathering with the Church when they are older. (We have a “cry room” for parents with babies and very young children. Don’t worry – we love children, even when they are restless! laughing)
Does your church have any theological distinctives?
We hold to the statement of faith and Baptist principles as shown above. Our pastor and elders preach and teach the Bible from a Reformed Baptist perspective.
How do I become a member?
We practice Biblical church membership (and discipline). We believe that membership to the visible church is for those who have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Adherents who wish to become members participate in a discipleship programme with the Pastor and elders. The programme is designed to both teach the Biblical view of church membership and to confirm that applicants have a personal relationship with Jesus and are repenting and trusting in Him by faith. Upon the confirmation of the elders and the church members, you will be welcomed into membership. Baptism by full emersion as well as agreement with our statement of faith are requirements for membership.
